We have now introduced within the check out procedure a Self Certification VAT Exemption Form. All customers must be logged in with a valid email address to be able to order/purchase any product and use the VAT Eligibility Form.
When ordering/purchasing a product you will be offered six (6) choices of payment methods:
- Credit Card Payment
- Debit Card Payment
- Purchase Order
- Bank Transfer
With any of the above payment methods you can choose to complete the VAT Form which will remove the VAT from your checkout payment. Easy Care Systems will receive an automatic email via the web site with your completed VAT Form, which will be held on file in the event of a Customs and Excise VAT inspection.
Declaration for VAT Relief
Value Added Tax (known as VAT) is a tax paid by all consumers when you buy goods and services in the European Union including the United Kingdom. In the UK the current rate of VAT is 20% (increased from 17.5% on 4 January 2011).
Those who are registered disabled or chronically ill do not have to pay VAT when they purchase equipment that has been designed specifically for disabled people. The rules about VAT relief for disabled and those who are chronically ill are complicated. Not all products supplied to those who are disabled/chronically ill are VAT free. If you are unsure as to whether you are eligible to receive certain good or services without paying VAT please consult your local VAT office, see HMRC Notice 701/7 or visit the Government’s own website for more details. This can be found by visiting the website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/Taxreliefandreductions/DG_10028495
Or the HMRC website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/sectors/consumers/disabled.htm
Alternatively you can call their helpline on 0845 302 02 03.
If you are eligible to receive certain goods designed for the disabled/chronically ill without paying VAT then please complete the declaration form on the next page and either email a scanned copy to firstname.lastname@example.org OR post to Easy Care Systems Ltd, 5 Lower Vicarage Road Southampton Hampshire SO19 7RJ. On receipt of a completed VAT form we will reimburse the VAT payment. Please note that VAT will still be charged on any delivery/postage charges.
If you are purchasing appropriate products for use by someone who meets the required eligibility criteria this form still requires completion.
Please note that there are penalties for making false declarations.
VAT Relief Guidelines
VAT is a tax that consumers pay when purchasing services or goods in the European Union. The standard rate for VAT in the UK is currently 20% (increased from 17.5% on 4 January 2011).
If you are chronically sick or disabled, many items on our website are available VAT free if you are buying them for personal and domestic use and they are relevant to your condition.
To claim relief from VAT, customers must have a relevant disability or be purchasing on behalf of someone with a relevant disability.
To make it simple when purchasing from this website, you will just need to complete the declaration form in the checkout process. Or you can print off and complete the VAT declaration form available by clicking here.
If you would like to check the VAT regulations, details can be found at HM Customs and Excise, Notice 701/7, Supplies to handicapped people.
Please note that VAT exemption eligibility does not cover those who are frail/elderly who are otherwise able-bodied. Nor does it cover any person who is temporarily disabled or incapacitated. The product must be supplied for the personal or domestic use of a chronically sick or disabled person to qualify for VAT zero-rating. Please also note that there are severe penalties, under the VAT laws in the UK, for any person who makes a false declaration or who evades VAT.
Not all products are eligible for VAT exemption. Products which are eligible are clearly indicated and can only be sold VAT free if the above criteria are met.
If you have any queries, please check with your local Customs & Excise VAT office http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/contactus/start.jsp who will be able to confirm eligibility. Alternatively visit the Government website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/BeginnersGuideToTax/VAT/DG_190905
